Abstract
This report presents an environmental impact assessment of a proposed marina in Paphos, Cyprus, developed as a case study to test a practical approach to environmental impact assessment for coastal development. It describes the procedures used, including project screening, preparation and evaluation of the assessment, decision-making, and proposed monitoring. The assessment examines the proposed marina, its physical, hydrographic, sedimentological, biological, and land-use characteristics, and potential effects on coastal processes, marine pollution, flora and fauna, landscape, nearby land use, and airport noise. It also identifies technical and legal measures to reduce adverse effects and sets out surveys, modelling, and monitoring activities intended to support project design and operation.
