UNEP and UN-Habitat Greener Cities Partnership

This document outlines the Greener Cities Partnership between UNEP and UN-Habitat, building on over 20 years of collaboration to promote environmental sustainability in urban development. Highlighting lessons from the 2008–2013 Urban Environment Partnership, it sets out shared priorities for resilient and resource-efficient cities, sustainable transport and mobility, and integrated waste and wastewater management. The partnership integrates environmental and urban planning at global, regional, and local levels, using demonstration projects, stakeholder engagement, and evidence-based planning to tackle challenges like urban sprawl, inefficient land use, and pollution. With activities focused in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, the partnership supports initiatives such as the Global Initiative for Resource-Efficient Cities and the Africa Sustainable Transport Forum.
