EMASAR PHASE II

This report presents the findings of a grazing land consultation mission undertaken in Sudan to support the ecological management of arid and semi-arid rangelands. It examines economic conditions, forage resources, institutional capacity, social factors, and livestock production systems affecting grazing land use. The document outlines evidence of land degradation linked to overgrazing, fire, and agricultural expansion, and analyses traditional pastoral practices and marketing constraints. It proposes targeted grazing land development interventions, including forage seed production, cooperative ranching, and integrated land use around towns and water points, with particular focus on the Gezira, Blue Nile, and Kordofan regions. The report defines implementation frameworks, management practices, and monitoring considerations to improve productivity while conserving grazing resources.
