Abstract
This report provides a national environmental assessment for Cambodia. Developed by the Ministry of Environment with UNEP support, the document reviews the country’s environmental resources, socio-economic context, and key challenges impacting sustainability. It highlights the interdependence between Cambodia’s rich biodiversity, hydrological systems, and economic reliance on agriculture and fisheries. Five major environmental concerns are analyzed in detail: land degradation, biodiversity loss, inland aquatic resource depletion, coastal and marine resource management, and waste management. The report draws attention to causes such as illegal logging, overfishing, and pollution, while underscoring the pressure from rapid population growth and urbanization. It presents sector-specific data, maps, and trends, and offers policy responses and strategic actions including law reforms, protected area expansion, and community-based resource management.
