Air quality policies in San Marino

This document is based on research that UNEP conducted in 2015, in response to Resolution 7 of the UNEA 1. It describes country-level policies that impact air quality. Triple question marks (???) indicate that information for the section couldn’t be found. Focusing on San Marino, this brief outlines major knowledge gaps regarding air quality monitoring, standards, policies, and regulation. The report identifies industry—which accounts for 39.2% of GDP—and total reliance on imported electricity and natural gas from Italy as relevant factors influencing air quality. However, detailed data on industrial practices, transport emissions control, and measures against open burning are largely unavailable. While less than 5% of the population uses solid fuels for cooking and heating, the impact and regulation of indoor air pollution remain unclear.
