Abstract
This report summarises the Poverty-Environment Initiative, a United Nations programme implemented in Africa from 2005 to 2018 that integrates poverty reduction and environmental sustainability into national development planning. It describes support provided through financial and technical assistance to strengthen institutions and capacities. The document reviews achievements, limitations and responses, focusing on evidence-based policy integration, budgeting reforms and stakeholder engagement. It highlights outcomes including integration of climate and ecosystem considerations into planning systems, improved investment approaches, and enhanced resilience.
