Abstract
This report analyses global investment trends in renewable energy, examining flows across technologies, regions, and financing stages using compiled financial and market data. It outlines record investment levels in 2011 despite declining technology costs and economic uncertainty, with solar energy driving growth while wind investment declined. The report covers differences between developed and developing economies, sectoral performance, and evolving cost competitiveness. It also addresses the role of policy frameworks and financial mechanisms in shaping investment patterns. The findings indicate expanding renewable capacity and economic significance, alongside persistent constraints including policy uncertainty, uneven investment distribution, and limited progress in reducing emissions.
