Environmental Law in UNEP - 1991 Edition

The thrust of the United Nations Environment Programme's environmental law activities comes from the decisions of its Governing Council and is strengthened by major United Nations Environment Programme programme documents such as the In-depth Review of Environmental Law (pertaining to environmental law both within and outside the United Nations system) and the conclusions of the Ad Hoc Meeting of Senior Government Officials Expert in Environmental Law, held in Montevideo in 1981. At Montevideo, government legal experts drafted recommendations for the development and periodic review of environmental law and stressed the hurdles facing the implementation, ratification, and enforcement of international environmental agreements. The Montevideo recommendations were transformed into a series of specific activities and projects.
