Biodiversity in Africa​ with a focus on Africa’s priorities​ in the processes and Conferences of Parties (COPs) of​ CBD, CITES and RAMSAR

This document presents an overview of biodiversity in Africa and the continent’s priorities for treaty meetings: the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, and the Convention on Wetlands. It introduces the African Wildlife Foundation’s mission and history, explains each treaty’s purpose and frameworks, and describes biodiversity and its importance for livelihoods and the economy. It summarizes drivers of loss, including habitat conversion, overuse, climate change, pollution, invasive species, illegal trade, and weak governance, and notes impacts.
