Abstract
This summary report presents a comprehensive appraisal of the progress made by Latin American and Caribbean countries towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Coordinated by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean alongside seventeen United Nations bodies, the document evaluates various targets up to 2010, noting that while substantial progress occurred during a six-year period of favourable conditions, the subsequent global economic crisis halted or reversed some positive trends. The scope encompasses poverty, hunger, employment, education, gender equality, health, and environmental sustainability. Key findings highlight persistent regional inequalities, structural development impediments, and significant vulnerabilities among rural populations, children, and women.
