Statement of the Africa Group on Agenda Item 5: Widening the Funding base of UNEP

This document records an oral statement delivered by Morocco on behalf of the Africa Group during the 10th Annual Subcommittee Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (20–24 November 2023) under Agenda Item 5 on widening UNEP’s funding base. It thanks the chair, panelists, and Secretariat, and welcomes an updated overview of UNEP financial trends, funding status, and challenges in the current funding structure, including a concept note and support for implementing paragraph 88 of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development outcome document. It acknowledges efforts to broaden Environment Fund contributions and identify flexible funding partners, recalls developed countries’ historical responsibility, and calls for adequate means of implementation.
