Final Report to UNEP: SSFA with Health Care Without Harm (HCWH): A 40,000 USD Project Funded by the USEPA: “Phase-Out of Mercury Fever Thermometers and Blood Pressure Devices in Healthcare in Brazil and South Africa”

This report presents the results of a project implemented by Health Care Without Harm under the World Health Organization–Health Care Without Harm Mercury-Free 2020 initiative within the United Nations Environment Programme Mercury in Products Partnership. The project supported development of national and provincial policies to substitute mercury thermometers and blood pressure devices in Brazil and South Africa. Activities included advocacy, surveys, stakeholder engagement and action plan development. Outputs comprised a national policy and action plan in Brazil and provincial action plans in South Africa, contributing to implementation and ratification processes related to the Minamata Convention on Mercury.
