Cleaner Production in the Mediterranean Region

This document presents the cleaner production concept for the Mediterranean region and summarizes how it can be implemented as a continuous, preventive strategy to reduce pollution at source, conserve resources, and minimize risks to people and the environment. It situates the approach within regional environmental pressures and international frameworks, describing institutional initiatives, policy instruments, and European research and development programmes that support adoption. The report’s core method is a survey-based compilation of 13 enterprise case studies from multiple Mediterranean countries, covering sectors such as textiles, steel, electronics, food processing, metal finishing, leather tanning, gas turbines, and appliances.
