Abstract

This presentation outlines the role of the Kenya Bureau of Standards in regulating lead content in paints within Kenya and the wider African context. It explains the institution’s mandate, functions, and contribution to health, safety, and environmental protection through standards development and enforcement. It highlights regional cooperation efforts, including a workshop where countries agreed to phase out lead in paint and adopt a 90 parts per million limit. It also describes ongoing development and harmonisation of national and regional standards to control lead levels in paint products.
