Abstract

This quarterly report provides an update to the Committee of Permanent Representatives on significant political, regional and management developments related to the United Nations Environment Programme, covering the period from 1 December 2019 to 31 January 2020. It reviews engagement at the twenty-fifth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, including the release and uptake of the Emissions Gap Report 2019, which calls for substantially strengthened nationally determined commitments to meet global temperature goals. The report summarises contributions to discussions on resource efficiency, fossil fuel production and low-carbon buildings, and notes outcomes and outstanding issues from the conference. It outlines progress on Sustainable Development Goals indicators, updates on General Assembly resolutions, and developments under multiple environmental agreements. Regional activities across Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America are described. The report further presents detailed financial information on income, allocations and expenditures, resource mobilisation strategy, staffing composition and gender parity, as well as audit implementation and evaluation findings.
