Abstract
This chairs’ summary, prepared by the meeting chairs from the International Energy Agency, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, and the United Nations Environment Programme, documents a high-level meeting held on 8 December 2015 at the Netherlands Pavilion during the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties Twenty-One in Paris. It outlines the purpose and scope of discussions among representatives from governments, the private sector, civil society, and international organizations on the role of zero emission vehicles in climate change mitigation. The document reports assessments of technological readiness, battery performance improvements, cost trends, infrastructure requirements, electricity system integration, policy measures, financial incentives, and the importance of stable policy frameworks, coordinated action, and international cooperation to support a transition toward a zero emissions transport sector.
