Abstract

This infographic quantifies the extent and consequences of global food loss and waste. It states that one third of food produced for human consumption, approximately 1.3 billion tonnes per year, is lost or wasted, occupying 1.4 billion hectares of land and consuming significant water and fertiliser resources. The document presents associated environmental, economic and social costs, identifies differences between developing and industrialised regions, and outlines where losses occur across the supply chain.
