Abstract

This policy brief highlights sustainable public procurement as a tool for advancing socioeconomic and environmental objectives. It notes that public procurement accounts for more than 30 per cent of gross domestic product in developing countries and 10–15 per cent in developed countries. Focusing on Uganda, it outlines benefits such as resource efficiency, inclusive growth, innovation, and green jobs, while identifying barriers and presenting policy reforms and strategies to strengthen sustainable procurement practices.
