Establishing an Independent Global Tailings Management Institute (GTMI)

In October 2021 UNEP, together with the Church of England Pensions Board and the Council on Ethics of the Swedish AP Funds (on behalf of PRI) announced the creation of a multi-stakeholder advisory panel to support the foundation of the Global Tailings Management Institute. The members of the Panel represented a diverse set of interests reflecting the multiple stakeholders with an interest in effective tailings management. Supported by former Alcoa Tailings Expert, David Cooling, the Panel has met 9 times.
