Peatlands of Africa

Africa’s peatlands are highly diverse, including tropical swamp forests in the Congo Basin, river floodplains in West Africa, mountain regions in East Africa, and coastal zones in South Africa. While many remain intact, over 50% are degraded in some countries due to land use and climate pressures.
