Plan de accion para la conservacion de los mamiferos marinos en el pacifico sudeste

This report outlines a multinational strategy for the conservation of marine mammals in the Southeast Pacific. Developed through collaboration with the Permanent Commission of the South Pacific, it was formally adopted by the governments of Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Panama, and Peru. The action plan is based on regional diagnostics and national studies, and is structured around policy development, scientific research, capacity building, environmental education, and regulatory coordination. It addresses key challenges including bycatch, habitat degradation, and the socio-economic dimensions of local fishing communities. The plan promotes coordinated regional and international cooperation through legal, scientific, and financial mechanisms, including the establishment of national focal points, an expert consultative group, and a dedicated trust fund. Priority is placed on species and populations at risk, with the aim of achieving long-term ecological sustainability and inclusive conservation efforts.
