Abstract
This document outlines an industry-oriented Declaration for Solutions on Marine Litter, announced at the UN/NOAA 5th International Marine Debris Conference, and presents a six-point strategy emphasizing partnerships, research on scope and impacts, enforcement of existing laws, knowledge-sharing on waste management, expanded recycling and energy recovery, and stewardship of plastic pellets across the supply chain. It frames marine litter as unacceptable while noting societal benefits of plastics and the need for proper recovery to protect ecosystems. It summarizes a waste management hierarchy (reduce, reuse, recycle, energy recovery) and highlights illustrative initiatives and metrics, including Vacances Propres actions, U.S. plastics collection figures (2011), the “I Want to Be Recycled” campaign, and several energy recovery technology pathways.
