GEO Health: City of São Paulo: Green and Healthy Environments Project – Summary and Lessons Learned

This document summarises a pilot application of an integrated health and environment assessment in an urban context, developed through collaboration among governmental, scientific and international institutions to support decision-making and policy formulation. It outlines a participatory, interdisciplinary and intersectoral methodology that combines environmental and health data, indicator construction and spatial analysis to examine relationships between socio-economic drivers, environmental conditions and health outcomes. The study focuses on water, waste and sanitation issues, using local databases and community input to identify vulnerable areas and priority actions. Findings highlight significant inequalities in environmental exposure and health risks, while demonstrating the usefulness of integrated indicators and participatory processes for guiding interventions and strengthening institutional capacity.
