Territoriós Propulsores de Bioeconomia - Múltiplos benefícios das cadeias da sociobiodiversidade em áreas protegidas

The study developed through a partnership between UNEP and the Public Policy Group of ESALQ-USP, aims to evaluate the multiple value—social, economic, and environmental—of socio-biodiversity chains within protected areas of the Brazilian Amazon. Its broader goal is to enhance understanding of how these chains, developed by Indigenous Peoples, Quilombola, and Traditional Communities (IP&LCs), contribute to both local livelihoods and biodiversity conservation, particularly in light of existing and emerging public policies. Specifically, the study focuses on analyzing the impact of Extractive Reserves (RESEXs) on native vegetation conservation across the Legal Amazon, while identifying local vulnerabilities and pressures. It gathers qualitative and quantitative data on value chains in the Médio Juruá region, identifying bottlenecks in key products such as pirarucu, rubber, oilseeds, and cassava flour. Additionally, the research examines how public policies can improve the income of traditional populations (PIPCTs) and create synergies to strengthen socio-biodiversity chains, ultimately offering evidence-based insights to inform policy decisions.
