Africa's Adaptation Gap 2: Bridging the gap – mobilising sources

This document assesses Africa’s climate adaptation financing gap and the implications for the continent’s development prospects, emphasizing that climate change poses an immediate risk that could derail current development pathways. It situates the analysis within developed-country commitments under the Climate Convention to assist particularly vulnerable developing countries in meeting adaptation costs, and it builds on the first Africa’s Adaptation Gap Technical Report (2013), which reviewed sectoral impacts and provided initial adaptation cost estimates. The 2015 update focuses on how far African countries can contribute to closing the gap, to clarify the scale of resources required and the extent to which international climate finance must be urgently raised, leveraged, and deployed.
