Abstract
This brief sets out recommendations to the United Nations Environment Assembly and environment ministers on addressing illicit wildlife trafficking and strengthening the environmental dimension of the post-2015 development agenda. It calls for recognition of illicit wildlife trafficking as serious transnational organised crime and for coordinated action through existing international mechanisms, strengthened national legislation, judicial capacity, financial investigations, and behavioural change programmes. It further urges integration of environmental sustainability across the Sustainable Development Goals, with specific proposals for targets on biodiversity, ecosystems, energy, water, oceans, climate change, governance and poverty eradication. The document outlines priority goals and measurable targets to 2030 and presents an analysis of how proposed goals align with social, environmental, economic and governance dimensions.
