Second Consultation Workshop of Biodiversity-related Conventions on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (Bern II)

This report covers the second consultation workshop convened to engage other multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs)—especially biodiversity-related conventions—in shaping the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Participation included parties and secretariats from 13 MEAs, notably all eight biodiversity-related conventions of the Liaison Group of Biodiversity-related Conventions (BLG). The workshop report is issued as an information document for upcoming Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) meetings, namely SBI-3, WG2020-3, and CBD COP 15. To support deliberations, the report provides a table synthesizing conclusions from the discussions and mapping them to key agenda items for SBSTTA-24 and SBI-3. These conclusions were not formally agreed and are elaborated with contextual analysis in the main text. The report also contains a co-leads’ summary by Somaly Chan (Kingdom of Cambodia) and Anne Teller (European Union) setting out their assessment of the consultation’s outcomes and recommended next steps.
