Abstract

This report details the proceedings of the first session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Bureau, held in February 1989 to coordinate global climate assessments. Established following a United Nations General Assembly resolution, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was tasked with evaluating the state of climate science, environmental and socio-economic impacts, and potential response strategies. The meeting established an eighteen-month work plan for three specialised working groups, prioritising the creation of a comprehensive assessment report to inform policy. Furthermore, the Bureau focused on increasing expert participation from developing nations and preparing for the Second World Climate Conference.
