Synthesis Report for the Terminal Evaluation of UNEP DDT Projects

This synthesis report evaluates five Global Environment Facility-funded projects implemented between 2003 and 2017 to demonstrate and scale up sustainable, locally appropriate alternatives to dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane for malaria and other vector-borne disease control. Drawing on project and evaluation reports, it assesses relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, outcomes and sustainability across 31 countries. The projects aimed to reduce reliance on persistent insecticides, eliminate stockpiles, strengthen integrated vector management capacities, and improve data collection and reporting under the Stockholm Convention. Findings indicate substantial reductions in dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane use and stockpiles, moderate progress in integrated vector management adoption, and declining compliance with national reporting obligations.
