Outcome Document of the Third Ad-Hoc Open-Ended Meeting of the Seventh Edition of UNEP’s Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7): GEO-7 Summary for Policymakers (SPM) Review and Approval Meeting

On Monday 27, October 2025, the Ad Hoc Open-ended Meeting for the review and approval of the Second Order Draft (SOD) of the SPM of GEO-7 commenced with opening remarks from Meeting Co-chair Mr. Lorenzo Ciccarese (Italy) and introductions of the meeting’s Bureau members: Ms. Anna Mampye (South Africa), Mr. Miroslav Havránek (Czech Republic), in absentia, Mr. Alberto Capra (Argentina) and Dr. Thuraya Said Al Sariri (State of Oman). UNEP Executive Director, Ms. Inger Andersen expressed appreciation to the various contributors including the meeting bureau, authors, fellows, major groups and stakeholders, Member States, MESAG, IMAG, and funders. She underscored GEO-7’s role in advancing multilateralism and noted the impact of emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, on future environmental assessments. She noted that GEO-7 was positioned as a scientific tool to inform policymaking and support Member States at the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in addressing global environmental challenges.
