Abstract

This document details initiatives to eliminate mercury devices from São Paulo’s health sector. Guided by international health and environmental recommendations, the project collaborates with government bodies and civil society to mitigate exposure risks through awareness campaigns and formal replacement agreements. Key findings show complete substitution achieved across 136 hospitals, 139 laboratory units, 23 blood banks, and 31 medical speciality centres. Local inspections verified these results, confirming that numerous public network institutions successfully completed full device replacement despite the lack of prohibitory legislation.
