Abstract
This document examines the role of nature in supporting the transition to a green economy within the broader context of sustainable development and poverty eradication. It outlines the dependence of economic systems and human well-being on natural capital and ecosystem services, and reviews policy commitments and international initiatives addressing environmental degradation. The document analyses concepts related to green economy approaches, evaluates methods for assessing the value of nature, and discusses sectoral interdependencies. It presents evidence on economic and social benefits of investing in natural capital, and identifies governance, financial mechanisms, and policy tools required to enable systemic transition while addressing trade-offs, risks, and stakeholder impacts.
