National Programme on Sustainable Consumption and Production of Uganda

This document presents Uganda’s strategic framework for transitioning to sustainable consumption and production (SCP) in alignment with global and regional sustainability commitments. It responds to the ecological and social challenges caused by unsustainable practices—such as land degradation, pollution, and resource depletion—that currently affect the country. Anchored in the outcomes of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development and the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation, the programme supports the shift toward SCP to protect the environment and improve human well-being. It aligns with the African 10-Year Framework of Programmes (10-YFP), developed through collaboration between the African Union, AMCEN, UNEP, and UN-DESA, to facilitate regional cooperation and integrate SCP into national policies. The document outlines Uganda’s SCP priorities, sectoral strategies, institutional arrangements, and pilot activities in energy, water, waste management, and education, forming a comprehensive roadmap to embed sustainability into national development planning and enhance environmental and economic resilience.
