Sudan: First State of Environment and Outlook Report 2020: Environment for Peace and Sustainable Development

This report documents and assesses the current state of the environment in Sudan while presenting future outlooks, scenarios and policy options to support sustainable development. It establishes the country’s first comprehensive environmental baseline, examines the drivers and impacts of environmental change, and evaluates existing policy and institutional responses. The report provides a foundation for strengthening environmental governance, informing policy development and improving institutional effectiveness. It is structured around key questions concerning environmental conditions, their causes and consequences, the effectiveness of current actions, future environmental trajectories, and opportunities for more sustainable outcomes. It also considers Sudan’s capacity to meet national priorities and international commitments, including the Sustainable Development Goals and climate change obligations.
