Brazzaville Declaration on the Environment for Development

This document records a declaration adopted by African Ministers of Environment meeting in Brazzaville on 25–26 May 2006 under the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment, setting out political commitments and priority actions to advance “environment for development” in Africa. It frames Africa’s vulnerability to environmental threats and global environmental change in relation to sustainable development and the Millennium Development Goals, and anchors its agenda in the New Partnership for Africa’s Development environment initiative and associated action plan. The text emphasizes capacity development, strengthened policy and institutional frameworks, support for coastal and marine conventions, and scaled sustainable land management through TerrAfrica.
