Marine Environmental Centres: Caribbean

This directory presents detailed profiles of marine environmental institutions across the Caribbean region. Developed under the auspices of the UNEP Regional Seas Programme, it is a direct contribution to the regional Action Plan for the Caribbean Environment Programme, adopted during an intergovernmental meeting convened by UNEP in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from 6 to 8 April 1981. Coordinated by the Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Information System (ASFIS) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the directory was produced using information collected via questionnaires distributed to marine institutes in Caribbean Action Plan member States. The responses were collated and entered into an adapted Institutions Register aligned with Regional Seas priorities. The publication provides an overview of governmental, academic, and private organizations engaged in marine research, conservation, fisheries, and oceanography.
