African Group Ministerial Declaration on Environmental and Sustainable Development Issues

This document provides the African Group’s initial inputs in Nairobi to the Zero Draft Ministerial Declaration for UNEA-7. It outlines priorities for consultations, calling for transformative environmental solutions and a just transition. It reaffirms Rio Declaration principles, the 2030 Agenda, and conference outcomes, and notes a widening adaptation finance gap and Africa’s vulnerability to climate impacts despite low emissions. It calls for expanding UNEP focus to include desertification, land degradation, drought, water scarcity, and food security. It identifies priority areas covering climate finance, biodiversity, plastic pollution with technology transfer and finance, circular economy approaches, chemicals and ozone compliance, sustainable mining, and links between environment, conflict, and migration.
