Uganda: Atlas of our Changing Environment

This atlas presents an evidence-based assessment of environmental change in Uganda, using multi-temporal satellite imagery, ground photographs, and graphical analysis to document trends over time. It examines the country’s natural resources, including forests, water systems, wetlands, climate, and biodiversity, alongside socio-economic factors such as population growth, urbanisation, and land use. The document analyses drivers of environmental change, particularly human activities and climatic influences, across different regions and ecosystems. Key findings highlight deforestation, wetland degradation, declining water quality, lake shrinkage, and increased flooding linked to unplanned development, while also noting areas of ecological recovery. The atlas is intended to inform decision-making and support environmental management and planning processes.
