Abstract

Madagascar’s coastal zones are vital for the livelihoods of local communities, supporting over 75% of the population with food, income, and natural buffers against climate change. However, these ecosystems face severe degradation due to overexploitation, deforestation, and climate threats like rising sea levels, intensifying cyclones and increased rainfall variability. This project aims to enhance the resilience of coastal communities and ecosystems by upscaling successful ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) approaches with a focus on gender equity. The project builds on the experiences and results of an earlier project, titled Adapting Coastal Zone Management to Climate Change Considering Ecosystem and Livelihoods.
