Plan for Improving Observations Around Lake Victoria that Support Numerical Weather Predictions, Climate Services and Adaptation

Abstract

This report presents a regional plan developed from a workshop held in Entebbe, Uganda from 31 October to 2 November 2018 that examined how meteorological observations can better support weather prediction, climate services and adaptation in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. The document reviews the current status of national observing networks and highlights widespread limitations affecting the availability and reliability of data required for numerical weather prediction and climate analysis. It identifies insufficient reporting of observations, incomplete international station registration, limited calibration capacity and stations that are non-operational or not functioning as intended. The report therefore outlines measures to strengthen sustainability, improve data exchange and support regional cooperation in order to enhance climate information and decision-making.
