Abstract

The report presents a case study on a prominent railway system in India that is facing challenges from climate change, along with a framework to analyse such situations. The railway system is in a coastal region with hilly terrain, which experiences heavy rainfall during the southwest monsoon period in India. The tree cover along the railway track is also succumbing to increasing population pressures from resettlements after the construction of this railway line. Loose rocks, boulders, and soil slips on the railway track create infringement and unsafe conditions for train operations. Incessant rains are the main cause of such incidents.
