Barbados' Green Economy Scoping Study

This report examines Barbados’s pathway to a resource-efficient green economy, produced by the Government of Barbados, UWI Cave Hill, and UNEP. It assesses five priority sectors—agriculture, fisheries, building/housing, transport, and tourism—alongside cross-cutting systems for water, energy, waste, and land. The study defines a small-island green economy, reviews current policies and data, identifies investment gaps and opportunities, and estimates potential economic, social, and environmental returns. It analyzes enabling conditions including finance, technology, trade, taxation, education, standards, procurement, governance, and information. Finally, it outlines a policy roadmap emphasizing institutional cohesion, public-sector leadership, private-sector commitment, partnerships, capacity building, monitoring, and SIDS knowledge transfer.
