Abstract
This rapid response assessment report highlights the critical threats to orangutan survival in Indonesia’s national parks due to illegal logging, fires, and palm oil expansion. Based on satellite data and official sources, it reveals that over 90% of surveyed parks have been affected, putting biodiversity and protected areas at risk. The report attributes forest destruction mainly to organised commercial operations linked to global markets. While Indonesia has taken steps through trained ranger units, the report calls for stronger international support to prevent irreversible loss of habitat and species.
