Abstract

This document summarizes a 2030 baseline assessment of global methane, reporting record atmospheric growth, concentrations at 260% of pre-industrial levels, and human activities as the overwhelming source. It attributes nearly 45% of current net warming to anthropogenic methane and emphasizes that rapid cuts this decade deliver larger near-term cooling than CO₂ mitigation alone. Without new action, emissions are projected to rise 5–13% by 2030, driven by increases in agriculture (especially livestock), fossil fuels (notably oil and gas), and waste, with coal roughly stable or declining. Regionally, Middle East/Africa and Asia see the largest growth.
