Urban Ecosystem-based Adaptation - Briefing Note

Abstract

This document explains how ecosystem-based adaptation uses natural ecosystems and their services to help cities and peri-urban areas adapt to the impacts of climate change. It outlines the growing importance of this approach as urban populations continue to expand and cities face increasing risks from heat, drought and flooding, alongside ageing infrastructure. The document highlights ecosystem-based adaptation as an opportunity to integrate climate resilience into urban development by creating greener, more liveable and healthier urban environments while addressing long-term environmental and infrastructure challenges.
