Abstract
This presentation outlines the development of Paraguay’s participation in the United Nations collaborative programme on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. It describes activities conducted between 2008 and 2009, including approval of participation, consultations with government institutions, civil society organisations, Indigenous Peoples’ organisations, and technical missions. The document explains the institutional arrangements proposed for programme coordination involving environmental authorities and stakeholder groups. It presents the programme goal of preparing Paraguay to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation by 2012. Key outcomes include strengthening institutional and technical capacity, establishing national systems for measuring emissions and carbon accounting, implementing local demonstration activities, and increasing awareness and support for forest and climate policies.
