Abstract

This document outlines Module 6C of a basic course on locating environmental information through curated gateways and portals, updated in March 2018. It samples key platforms and demonstrates their use: a Yale Library LibGuide for broad access, a “100 Top Environmental Sites” list, and multiple UNEP resources including the Knowledge Repository, Environmental Data Explorer, and UNEP Live. It also profiles PAHO’s Virtual Library, the U.S. EPA website and Science Inventory, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences databases, Columbia’s CIESIN, and ECOLEX for environmental law. Worked examples show targeted searches and result scales, such as 79 results for “oil spills,” 89 for “water AND pesticides,” 503 for “urban air quality,” and 3,044 for “rivers” in ECOLEX. The module concludes with exercises.
