AMCEN@40 and Africa's Environmental Priorities for 2025–2027

This document presents an overview of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) for discussions at the RCM 2025 ahead of its 20th Ordinary Session on 11 July 2025. It outlines AMCEN’s establishment in 1985 to coordinate environmental policy across Africa and articulate joint positions in global negotiations. It highlights achievements in strengthening Africa’s role in environmental diplomacy, providing science-to-policy leadership through outlook products and data networks, facilitating sustainable finance partnerships, and influencing UNEP and UNEA processes.
