Abstract
This key messages document summarises the main findings of an evidence-based scientific assessment on zoonotic diseases and measures to reduce the risk of future pandemics. It outlines the increasing frequency of diseases transmitted from animals to people, the environmental and human-driven factors contributing to their emergence, and the interconnected roles of biodiversity, food systems, and environmental health. The document highlights the health, environmental, and economic consequences of zoonotic disease outbreaks, identifies seven principal drivers of disease emergence, and presents ten policy response options focused on prevention, governance, sustainable food systems, biosecurity, and the implementation of a One Health approach to strengthen pandemic prevention and response.
