Workshop: Green Jobs for the Future - Skills Development, Green Jobs and Technologies to Accelerate the Circular Economy

This report documents a regional hybrid workshop held on 14–15 September 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand, focused on skills development, green jobs, and technologies to accelerate the circular economy. It outlines the workshop context in the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, and notes that many jobs depend on ecosystem services and that heat stress may reduce full-time employment. The report states that the Asian Institute of Technology and the United Nations Environment Programme, through the Global Opportunities for Sustainable Development Goals programme, convened the event with partners including Yunus Thailand, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, with additional support from the Oak Foundation, the United Nations Youth and Leadership Development Programme, and the Institute of Carbon Neutrality and Circular Economy. It summarises objectives, key outcomes, and a two-day agenda covering circular economy trends, policies, clean technologies, skills gaps, education responses, youth leadership, and entrepreneurship. It also records follow-up to Stockholm+50 intergenerational responsibility and contributions to the Green Jobs for Youth Pact led by the United Nations Environment Programme, the International Labour Organization, and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
